Summary

A conversation with a handsome stranger leaves Ariane chained in a cellar with a strange affliction. She soon discovers that the darkness of the nineteenth century’s Deep South hides many dangers. Mages, wolf shifters and the humans who hunt them play a risky game where to stumble is to die, all under the amused gaze of the apex predators of the supernatural world: vampires.

It is never healthy to attract the gaze of the aristocracy of the night. It takes much to survive in this merciless world, but Ariane will not let that deter her. The southern belle has a bite, and she is willing to learn and to grow in this hostile new world. She will use whatever means necessary to reclaim her freedom, be it guile, charm, or those intriguing new instincts that make blood so delectable.

This is a story of vampires as I believe they should be, with their strengths and weaknesses, with their remnants of humanity and the beast inside. Updates every Friday. Mind the tags.

Haven't decided if I'm gonna read this or not tbh... my intuition is telling me that this is something different from the usual garbage stories that are added in a good way, but I'm also feeling like it's not time for me to commit to it yet.

Kinda weird seeing this story here. Also, no idea who tagged this R-18, but there's no explicit s*x in the entire thing, just a couple of spicy moments lol. Anyone looking for sm*t will be greatly disappointed. Fantastic read though. For those concerned, it's not translated fiction so the Asian female lead tropes don't apply. MC is a badass that eats people and has fun. Highly recommend it.

R-18 can be used for things like gore and etc. But tbh R-18 is kinda associated with sm*t so it might confuse sm*t readers.

Ehh, I know that's the idea, but in practice R-18 denotes explicit sexual content whether in movies, shows, or games (R, M, or A) where official ratings are done. Gore and extreme violence are pretty common in things not rated for adults only. Although I still find it funny that PG-13 allows for a single "F*ck" to be spoken, but two of them will give it an R rating. Especially on this website, the R-18 tag marks explicit sexual content. At least, I've never seen gore and violence mark things as R-18 without s*x. Edit: Double checked the R-18 tag for the first time in a while (so I know which stories are sinful, definitely not for late night reading), and instead of a gathering of all the sm*t whether it has the tag or not, it's suddenly full of normal fictions and sm*t. God wept.

R-18 does not mean S*X. It means content NOT APPROPRIAT FOR CHILDREN. That does include s*x yes, but it could also be toruture, gore and anything that one would call mentaly insane.

Your answer sounds Americanised. Because in my country its the other way around. :D People can show partial S*x scenes and language 16+. But anything other is 18+, like t*rt*r* and gore. This just shows that the values of each land are different, when it comes to what is 18+. So what i ment to say is that YOUR R-18 is not the R-18 for this site.

It is very Americanized, and while I think the European rating system (s*x being less of a big deal than violence) makes a lot more sense, but R-18 on this site is broadly tied to s*x. That said, double-checking by sorting by the R-18 tag.. Not saying that I'm the sort of person that would occasionally read sm*t, but the R-18 tag has completely changed since the last time I 'looked' into it lol. More annoying than being wrong, there was a ton of sm*t that didn't have the sm*t tag, and so I exclusively browsed the R-18 tag. Even Primal Hunter has an R-18 tag. At this rate everything's gonna be tagged R-18 for gore 😭

      • Divine_Ancestor 14

Y, I don't know who makes the tags. Some stories don't even have more than 3. Others have really wild ones. And yes, sadly r-18 is no measurement for some good sm*t xD

Usually in general novels when Authors write a Female character they come off as unlikable or cringy . Most Authors don't have the ability to write a compellable female character

Generalisation for me, Ive been reading novels for years now and so far, only 3 novels with female mcs make my top list, and potentially my top 10, to be honest, they are all novels with female mcs that aren't based on romance and drama, I can list a handful and all are very good tbh, it's just the romantic dramas that I don't like, and all are notably female mcs, reading about a tyrant duke or some stalking prince is just not appealing for me.

Thank you for speaking up. Why is it in Shoujo and Josei webnovels, there must be a tyrant Duke, stalker prince, tsundere and cold-hearted northern Duke, prince with family issues, cold-hearted and crafty CEO and so on. It is becoming too generic and they should think outside of the box.

Yeah personally I wouldn't mind a straight romance novel, as long as it ain't stupid in that regard, all those mentioned follow the same formula, and the most Ive read all seem very rapey, like they are just forced into relationships, the only romance I liked with a female mc is you got the wrong house villain, it wasn't the best but it didn't feel like they were forced to marry some dude

Part 2 About a female charecter not have a man that's for some reason perfect in every way try to court them. And alot of the time IT MAKES NO SENSE like if I was saving the world im not gonna talk to the guy that's clearly trying to sleep with me I'd do what the plot is all about SAVE THE WORLD.

Most of the time I don't really care if its a female mc or a male mc but I prefer to read male mc story's because there are more good male mc novels with no romance since I find that alot of authors are just really bad with how they portray romance and often times I find that the romance partner is just a hindrance or an annoyance it doesn't help when they also drag the mc down, don't get me wrong tho I love good romance in a story and it's an apsolute plus if the male or female partner is an actually likeable charecter and this brings me back to your question my answer is quite simple female mc storys usually just have to have a strong sexy and beautiful male partner to the equally perfect female lead when the main story is supposed to be about this strong woman killing thousands of evil demons trying to destroy the world if the romance was the main plot point I'd not be so against it but no the author thinks that what all woman really want is a hunk of a man because how can a story

Lmao, you absolutely got rained on for this question. For an actual answer, the main difference is that you didn't have a choice. The majority of protagonists in genres outside of romance have traditionally been male leads. In the last decade there's been a broader rise of male authors writing female leads, and more female authors writing in traditionally male-dominated genres, but growing up most guys were easily able to find books in their interests that were almost exclusively male leads. Whether intentional or not, it ends up with the subconscious expectation that all leads are supposed to be easy to place ourselves in, because they've pretty much always been straight male leads, and there's a certain strangeness when suddenly stumbling into a story where the lead is in many ways both familiar and foreign. On the other hand, you probably grew up reading both, so there was never anything different lol.

If I had to guess from the type of novel that gets popular here a lot users are here for low quality wish fulfilment (like harem and sm*t) while there is nothing wrong with that type of novel that audience is not gonna respond well to female mcs. Another possible reason is that male amateur writers don't know how to write woman and that has probably colored a lot of users opinions on female characters in a negative way this affects those type of people that have read a narrow scope of novels. A sad possibility is that the infestation of edgy 12 year olds that inhabit this site might not have the healthiest view on women obviously most users are fine but the odd comment here and there makes them seem more numerous than they really are.

For your information, some prefer to read manga's, or play games so what you are saying is wrong. Majority of the novels are fictional so how is it going to affect them. Please do your survey properly before you text

Contrary to your believe, boys at that age don't care enough to read books, they'd rather read comics or some other thing, and the ones actually interested in reading books at that age are basically bookies (I think it means people interested in a lot of books?), So they generally wouldn't be posting snarky comments and reviews. well, that's in my experience anyway,

It's less about if you'd post snarky comments, and more about if you'd be interested in reading books at all. Personally, If I had a website like this then. I probably wouldn't read it at all. I honestly hated reading then... just like everyone around me even though I had a lot of books at home, highest we had to study for school, because it's school. lol

Each because of the perspective from which you are reading the story. I can't familiarize myself with the POV of a fmc as I do with the POV of a mc so I don't like it as much. If it has l*sb**n and sm*t in it though I'm all in...

If i have to say... It will be perspective... Mostly if a author is a female, she can write good story with male lead.. Reason being she will understand what the audience will need as a ideal male mc... As they dream of having a guy that have this and that... So they can relate to it... But if a Male author writes a female lead story... He will need to have some female friend, who can explain them how they feel in different situations... Otherwise... Most will just write what they think is female should feel at those situation... BUT Not everyone one like that as you people must know...

Majority of female authors will write about a highly unrealistic male character. But a male author will write about a male character in a realistic way.

      • lnwUser110001 1

That is not he case most of the time, most authors that write male MC's also write relatable and good fmcs but where the conundrum is now is that these kind of writers are few, a female can write a good male mc cause most females have ideal male dream but most guys dont have a realistic depiction of a fmc. The mature writers that do are little to begin with so the compromise is that most just don't .

I don't know... Personally, it's just not my first choice when I search for a novel to read, although if it's a really good story and someone I trust tells me it's good, I'll probably try it. Although, I think for some people the reason would be, they in some way see themselves in the mc, but when it's a lady it's just (...). kinda like how the average lady isn't attracted to really dark and violent novels with very graphic descriptions

I think it's probably because it's tougher to write a good novel with a Fmc when the autor is a man and stereotype do not help either. Also, you cannot just copy paste the mold of a story with a Male mc and make it a story with a Fmc.
